Trainee Construction Engineer Programme
The Trainee Construction Engineer Programme is aimed at those who wish to train to be a fully qualified Construction Engineer.
The trainees follow a programme to develop a comprehensive understanding of the business from inception through to adoption. This is achieved through rotation and assessment of each of our departments. The key area of development is the construction activity. Following the two year programme and subject to a satisfactory performance and assessment, the trainee is appointed as a Construction Engineer, where required in the business.
In the role of Trainee Construction Engineer the individual will spend their first five months in Leicester learning about the business spending approximately one month each in Sales, Tendering, Design, Construction and Business Support. They then move on to spend a longer period working in Construction in the South East. Following a period in Construction, the individual will return to Leicester, to the departments they went to in the first five months, to take a more in depth look at these functions. The individual then spends an extra two months in Construction in the South East and two months in Commissioning, furthering their knowledge of managing projects, dealing with developers and managing onsite works. Finally, the individual spends time with the SHEQ team in Leicester, learning about business compliance, quality and health and safety.
Entrants onto the scheme will either be educated to a degree level in an appropriate Engineering or Electrical discipline, or have experience of working in the utilities or construction sector with relevant qualifications. The Trainee Construction Engineers have the opportunity to work towards gaining a professional status with the IET.
